Good away win for Ballymoney United

UNITED raced into a three-nil lead in this one but were never in any danger of losing in the end as PSNI only scored their second goal with virtually the last move of the game.

It was another good success for stand-in boss John Fall following on from the five goals Ballymoney hit against Killymoon the previous week.

Ballymoney are due to make a decision on the name of their manager this week but John Fall said on Monday he was enjoying the current role as the goals have been flowing.

He was pleased with the team’s work rate against PSNI as they went into the game seeking to build on the Killymoon result.

Gerard Gillan gave United the lead around the half hour mark after good work by Mark Dempsey down the right saw him get the ball into Ryan Craig who slipped the ball in for Gillan.

Ballymoney’s defence, with left-back debutant Keith Thompson doing well against former Irish League players like Mark Picking, held PSNI off and spurred on by the performances of youngsters like 18-year-old Con Boyle they took a 2-0 lead after Dempsey’s ball in was put into his own net by a PSNI player.

United soon had three after a good one-two between Connor Reid and Gillan saw Gillan find the target again and although the PSNI pulled one back with ten minutes to go the full-time whistle sounded shortly after they got a second.
