Good start for Ballymena sides at Foyle Cup

Carniny Youth had four teams in action on the opening day and the six games they were involved in yielded only one defeat.

The Reds’ under-10s quickly found their shooting boots in the north west with a 10-2 win over Aileach Colts and a 2-2 draw with Cockhill Celtic.

At the complete other end of the goalscoring scale, the under-11s have yet to experience a goal - either for or against - after successive scoreless draws against Ballymoney United YA and Maiden City.

Carniny’s under-13s opened their campaign in confident style with a 4-1 win over Lifford Celtic.

The under-17s, unfortunately, couldn’t complete an unbeaten opening day as they went down 3-1 to Culmore FC.

Meanwhile, Ballymena United’s under-11s enjoyed their first taste of Foyle Cup action, claiming their first point.

In their opening game, the Wee Sky Blues took the lead against Newtownards and District through an Adam Watterson goal but conceded an equaliser late on.

In the second game the boys went behind to two early goals from a crack Donegal select team but came back well with a goal from Joshua Balmer and were unfortunate not to come away with a point in the end.

All the Ballymena boys will get to experience the official opening parade through the city this morning (Tuesday) before playing their second round of fixtures later today.
