Good win for Killymoon

Rathcoole, playing with a very strong wind at their backs in the first half, had the early advantage. Patrick, returning in goals was forced into action with a save, and the home side had to defend three successive corners before the ball was finally cleared.

On 14 minutes Stuarty Donaghy latched onto a pass from Eddie Davis and his goal-bound shot was kept out with a good save from the Rathcoole ‘keeper.

Rathcoole kept the pressure on the home team, creating a few half chances. Roger Greer had a shot wide and Eddie Davis almost got on the end of a weak back pass. Rathcoole had a man sent off on 42 minutes and Killymoon should have taken the lead in the 43rd minute.

The reliable Jamie O’Neill should have scored with a header when unmarked at the back post, but the header went wide.

In the opening minute of the second half Roger Greer went down in the box and the referee waved play on. Rathcoole had a half chance before a trademark Greer pile driver went just over the bar.

Killymoon were now playing with the strong wind on their backs and trying to use it to their advantage. Killymoon took the lead on 60 minutes from a short corner and scored a second goal minutes later with a low shot from Greer. Jamie O’Neill had a long range shot wide before Rathcoole pulled a goal back from a well-placed free kick.

Jason Wallace had a shot narrowly wide before Rathcoole had a good chance on 87 minutes, Patrick made the save, Killymoon went to the far end and scored again through Gary Greer to wrap up all three points.
