Gordon grabs two in Old Boys’ semi-final victory
MATTHEW Gordon grabbed a brace of goals as Lurgan BBOB edged out Scarva Rangers in the race for a Foster Cup final spot.
The on-song Gordon made his mark on two occasions after the interval as the Old Boys came out on top against highly-rated Rangers.
Rangers enjoyed the upper hand across the first half in terms of possession but failed to find the net - with the BBOB highlight arriving off Seth Mathers’ penalty save.
Matt Kennedy, Derek Wilson, Derek Blakely and Benny Greer worked hard to protect the clean sheet entering the interval.
BBOB claimed control after the break thanks to Neil McConville, Johnny Russell and Mark Russell.
The opening goal was scored by Gordon off Wilson’s headed pass from defence and the striker remained resolute to convert the opportunity under pressure.
Gordon increased his tally over the closing moments with a near-post flick off Richard Ferguson’s corner-kick.
LURGAN BBOB: Seth Mathers, Derek Blakely, Benjamin Greer, Matthew Kennedy, Derek Wilson, Neil McConville, Jonathan Russell, Mark Russell, Andrew Smyth, Richard Ferguson, Matthew Gordon. Subs: Simon Brown, Alan Dowey, Michael Wheatley, Stephen Harte, William Irvine.
