Gutsy display as Ports take on league leaders

With home advantage, Gary Taylor’s side held their own for 70 minutes, the leaders scored from a some what controversial free kick to walk away with a 1-0 win.

Portstewart made a number of changes from last week’s team that drew with Glebe.

Dean Murray replaced the suspended Owen Moody, Paul Miliken replaced Craig Ramsey while Owen Peden returned after a long spell out to replace an injured Ian Todd.

“We started the game really well,” told Assistant Aaron Forgrave.

“The three boys that came in did very well.

“We knew we would be up against it.

“Knockbreda are sitting at the top of the league, they have only lost one game this season, but credit to Portstewart we threw everything at them.”

Ricky Dunlop and Dean Murray tested the visiting keeper in the first half, while at the other end Madison dealt well with any Breda attacks.

The second half was much the same as the first, both sides pushing forward in search of an opener. Dunlop was again unlucky with an effort while Murray and James Peden also tested the on form keeper.

Knockbreda scored with ten minutes to go. A free kick from 20 yards burst through the wall giving Madison no chance.

“We had no complaints with the attitude.

“Every player gave 100 percent and that’s all we can ask of them.

“To be honest I think that a draw would have been a fair result,” added Forgrave.

Portstewart entertain Queen’s this Saturday, the game has a 2pm kick off.

“ It’ll be another tough game for us.

“There are no easy games in this League.

“We have improved greatly in the past weeks, so lets justs hope it continues and that our luck is starting to change.”
