Hagan on way to Lurgan Celtic asBlues miss out on striker McDaid

The 31 year-old has struggled to break into the Blues’ starting line-up so far this season, making just one start and coming on as a sub only twice.

He will join Celtic’s squad in the January transfer window and goes with Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton’s blessing.

“Conor knew chances would be limited here and he’s looking to play football at this stage of his career,” said the player/manager.

“It’s all about being hungry to play. I’ll not stand in anybody’s way who wants to play first team football. Conor’s been great to work with and any time he’s been asked to do a job, he’s done it. Anytime he hasn’t played, he hasn’t made a song or dance about it.

“We want to wish him all the best and thank him for all he did for the club. We hope that everything will work out at Lurgan Celtic.”

Hamilton also revealed he had made an attempt to lure former Derry City and York City striker David McDaid to the club before he decided to join Coleraine last week.

He said: “We did make a move to try and bring David McDaid in but he chose to go to Coleraine. We were very keen to add him to the squad because he’s a young player, only 23, with a lot of experience but that’s life.

“He’s signed what we believe to be a short term deal so maybe something can happen in the future but for now we just have to get on with it.

“He’s got great pedigree and pace that we lack with Mark Patton out. That was an extreme situation because players like that don’t come up very often.”

Hamilton didn’t rule out making an addition to his squad in the coming transfer window but did point out he is looking for the right fit.

“If somebody becomes available who is in the right age bracket and can be part of our long term plan here, we’ll make a move,” he said.

“It’s tough, we don’t have much money coming in. Conor going creates a little bit but we’ll see what we can bring in.

“Hopefully we will be able to bring in someone but there’s a good chance that we won’t.”
