Manager Gary Hamilton has lodged formal interest in Andrew Mitchell - Dungannon Swifts’ former Glenavon striker - with multiple bids.

Hamilton has also confirmed a need to add to the defensive options following Conor Dillon’s departure to Australia.

“Andy remains a target and, hopefully, we will have him back at Mourneview Park at some stage,” said Hamilton. “With Conor leaving for Australia then I also want to bring in another defender.

“It is always about bringing in quality to give us strength-in-depth and competition for places.

“We have most of the squad staying on at the club and will continue talks.

“Players are prepared to stay here and fight for the chance at securing a jersey to be part of our progress.

“That desire is crucial to help us move forward.”

Hamilton is refusing to bank on title-winning experience as key to a future assault on the Irish League’s main prize.

“We have players with trophy-winning experience based on the past two Irish Cups,” said Hamilton. “I remember winning the Irish League as a player at Portadown and most of that squad came in without having won the title in the past.

“Our results over the past few seasons show we can compete with the best teams, so we are moving in the right direction.

“I don’t believe in that theory you need title experience, it is more important to have the right quality and drive.

“If we sign better players to improve the group then, naturally, everything with progress on to the next level.”
