Hamilton’s praise for strong second half

“Being top of the league at this stage of the season doesn’t interest me.

“It’s about the performance. On Saturday in the first half we were comfortable, but in the second half we stamped our authority on the game.

“Everything we worked on in training paid off.

“The players followed the instructions given by myself and the coaching staff and that’s what pleased me the most.

“We wanted to pressure the ball as high up the pitch as we could and not give Institute a chance to play.

“When we got the ball I wanted us to move it quickly and accurately.

“It was pleasing that the boys took the information on board and stuck to the gameplan.

“The workrate of the players was excellent.

“Kevin Braniff didn’t get on the scoresheet but he had a hand in all four goals.

“Eoin got two and that’s him up to four in all competitions. He’s made a really good start to the season.

“Alan Blayney made two saves that kept us in the game when it was 0-0. He’s one of the best in the game.

“He makes saves at critical stages in games.

“Not long ago he was in the Northern Ireland squad.

“He came to us low in confidence and now his confidence is sky high.

“He’s got James McGrath underneath him so he knows his place isn’t guarranteed. That’s the sort of competition I want in all positions.

“Tony McNamee impressed me on his debut.

“He hadn’t played in a long time so it took him a while to get used to the pace of the game.

“He performed really well, he put in a good shift. I took him off in the second half as he was tiring.

“Because Winkie Murphy had to come off early on, I was left with only one sub.

“The fans wanted to see Darren Forsyth, but I had Eoin Bradley on the pitch going for a hat trick and Kevin trying to get on the scoresheet so I didn’t want to take either of them off.

“Nor did I want to bring Darren on and play him out of position.

“I don’t like making changes for the sake of making changes.

“Darren will get his chance when the time is right.”
