Hannan delighted as Kilroot hit Iveagh for six!

THERE were no slip-ups from Kilroot Rec who won maximum points in 6-0 win over Iveagh United in this Amateur League Division 1C game.

Kilroot manager Paul Hannan said: “A resounding victory like this will give the boys added confidence for the final five matches. It really was an outstanding performance. We played the flanks really well, especially after they were reduced to ten men.”

That sending off, after just 25 minutes - a straight red card for the Iveagh centre-half for a foul on Paul Gibb – certainly helped Rec’s cause, but by then they were already a goal to the good, after Paul Garvey had volleyed in David Gibb’s 10th-minute cross.

A stunning strike from another Paul Thompson gave Kilroot a two-goal advantage at the interval.

Kilroot were now making the extra man count on the super surface at Islandmagee’s Wilbourne Park, and they stretched their lead through two quick goals from Rob Armstrong just after the turnaround.

Leading marksman Andrew Dummigan made it five when he deftly glanced in a Jamie Sterling free-kick, before making it six of the best just before the close, thumping in Armstrong’s astute pass.

Kilroot Rec: Priestley – Sterling, Braiden, Anderson (O’Connor) – D Gibb, Armstrong, Hammond (Dallas), Garvey (Bingham), Thompson – Dummigan, P Gibb.

Result: Kilroot Rec 6 v Iveagh United 0
