Hard fought victory for Blues

Raceview 0 - 3 Magherafelt Sky Blues

THE Blues travelled to Broughshane last Saturday to take on last year’s league winners and after a hard fought game came away with all three points.

The game began with the Blues taking control and after 15 minutes took a deserved lead when a cross from Hasson was dropped by the Raceview keeper at the feet of Walls who calmly stroked the ball to the net. As the half progressed Raceview came more into the game and created a few half chances without really troubling Farniok in the Sky Blues goal although their nunmber eight fired a wonderful shot just over the top corner with Farniok well beaten. On 35 minutes Beattie used his electric pace to rob the Raceview defender and fired over a cross which Devlin headed home. The half ended with the Blues 2-0 in front.

The 2nd half began with Raceview changing formation and pushing forward looking a way back into the game but O’Neill and Kells were solid at the back. As Raceview chased the game the blues created great opportunities to extend their lead through Beattie, Walls and Monaghan but with no success. Midway through the half Raceview created their best opportunity when Farniok parried a shot and then reacted magnificently to save from the centre forward on the rebound and reacted again to flick the ball away from the strikers toe. Five minutes later the Blues made the game safe when Stewart raced through to slot home and cap a great individual man of the match performance. The Blues then saw the remainder of the game out without any further incident.

This was a great team performance where every player performed well and displayed a tremendous attitude. Gregory Stewart was the man of the match although there were a lot of contenders.

Team: Farniok, O’Neill, Kells, Quinn, De Barros, Monaghan, Hasson, Stewart, Devlin, Beattie, Walls. Subs; Scullion, Ludlow, Badger.
