Hastings: Larne Tech facing relegation battle

Amateur League: With Division 1A’s two basement teams both winning last weekend, fourth-from-bottom Larne Tech are being dragged into the relegation dogfight.

It’s now five defeats in their last six after going down 5-1 at Lisburn Rangers on Saturday.

The Tech face a real ‘six-pointer’ tomorrow when they meet the side one place beneath them, Orangefield Old Boys, at Dennis Harvey Park.

And a lot could hinge on the two head-to-heads with second-bottom Rathfriland Rangers.

Against Lisburn Rangers, the damage was done in the opening 45 minutes when Paul Kirk’s side raced into a four-goal lead.

Lisburn had added a fifth by the time Niall McAllister grabbed a consolation for the visitors.

Tech manager Johnny Hastings conceded: “We’re into it now. It’s crazy the way the season has turned round, but we’ve only ourselves to blame. We’re low in confidence at the minute. It’s a case of working hard and trying to get ourselves out of it.

“Lisburn destroyed us in the first half. They punished us big time. Not good!”
