Hastings nets vital goal as Rangers see off FC Larne

Canada Trophy R1: Whitehead Rangers emerged as 3-1 winners over FC Larne in Saturday’s derby clash at Beltoy.

Mark Jones put Rangers in front on 10 minutes and Gordon Ross doubled their advantage soon after. FC Larne’s Jeff Withers pulled one back from the spot after Whitehead had been reduced to 10 men.

But Rangers held out and broke clear on 83 minutes, with Danny Hastings scoring a vital third goal.

Intermediate Division: It was an afternoon to forget for Castle Star as they were hammered 8-0 by Newtowne at Taylor’s Avenue.

Elsewhere Rathcoole suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Desertmartin, with Adam Richmond the scorer for the visitors.

Junior Division 1: Carnmoney eased to a 4-1 victory at Antrim Rovers thanks to doubles from Craig Montgomery and Rob Butler.

Strikes from Rhys Cleland, Mark Conn (two), Criag Todd and Scott Gault helped champions Ballyclare Comrades Reserves to a 5-1 win at Cookstown Olympic, while FC Whiteabbey also produced a sizzling performance as they bagged a 6-1 success over Cookstown RBL. An own goal from the visitors got the Whites up and running. Jonny Montgomery, Niall Southam (two), Conor Mullen and Dan Brown were also on target.

Ross Oliver and Thomas Ogilvie found the net for Woodlands as they held Magherafelt Sky Blues to a 2-2 draw.

A Ross Middleton double and a Phil Browne strike saw Mallusk Athletic land a 3-1 win at home to Desertmartin Swifts.

Junior Division Two: Ballyclare North End came from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw with Brantoood Reserves, while Ballynure OB ‘B’ were thumped 6-0 at home to Remo.

Junior Division Three: Ryan McAllister scored twice for Rathcoole Reserves but the Newtownabbey side went down 4-2 at home to Ballysillan Swifts.

Alan McCartney (two), Matt Fegan and Adam Sloan were on target for Mallusk Athletic Reserves in their 4-3 victory over Castle Star Reserves and it was one way traffic as Red Star won 8-0 against Carnlough Swifts. Stephen Bittles (three), Ricky Johnson, Stephen Milligan and Stuart Thompson (three) scored the goals.

Craig Johnson, Steve McGregor, Adam Agnew and Gavin Monan scored for Remo Reserves in their 4-4 draw with 3rd Ballyclare.

1st Carrick OB also recorded a 4-4 draw on Saturday - against Mountainview.

Chris Dykes, Chris Sands, Jamie Cameron and Marcus Livingstone netted for the Old Boys.
