Tech manager Johnny Hastings said: “It was a comfortable 1-0. Our keeper had nothing to do, but Kircubbin were very physical and at times they brought us down to their level on a heavy pitch in what was the first game back since Christmas. It was a bit of a slog at times, but we’re through to the next round and that’s all that matters!”

The Tech were the better side with Keelan McAuley twice bringing out the best in the Kircubbin keeper, while Gary Barkley tested the quality of the woodwork on two occasions.

The visitors didn’t help their cause either when they had a player dismissed 10 minutes into the second half.

The Tech grabbed what turned out to be the winner on 75 minutes when Sean Ward crossed for Niall McConaghy to guide the ball in at the back post.

This Saturday its back to the league and a trip to second-placed Crumlin United, who will, no doubt, be keen to avenge that 7-1 drubbing at Craigyhill back in October.

Larne Tech OB: Keenan – Steele (McNeill), R Thompson, M Hyslop, Campbell – McConaghy (Smith), Montgomery, Barkley, Monaghan (Wharry) – Ward, McAuley.
