Haughey to return

LONG-term injury victim Mark Haughey could return to action before the end of the season.

The 21 year-old centre-back, who suffered a horrific double leg-break back in September, is back in training and Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton hopes to have him available for selection for his side’s last few Carling Premiership matches.

“It would be a massive boost to the squad if we could get him back in for the last three or four games so that’s the aim,” he told the ‘MAIL.’

“Mark’s back in training and if he gets a couple of Reserve games behind him hopefully he can come back in soon. It’s a big boost for the club because in my eyes he’s one of the best centre-halves in the league.

“If Mark had been playing the whole season, maybe we wouldn’t be in the position we’re in; that’s how highly I rate him.

“Mark isn’t pulling out of tackles or anything from what I’ve seen of him in training so far so that’s a good sign as well. Sometimes when people come back from bad leg breaks they can shirk tackles but he’s not doing that.”

Meanwhile, Jay Magee and Niall Henderson will come back into contention for this weekend’s match at Lisburn Distillery whilst Mark Turkington will be out for another week.
