Haveron: Dollingstown scoreline paints false picture

Carrick boss Gary Haveron says Saturday’s 3-2 scoreline in the Intermediate Cup win over Dollingstown painted a false picture.

Goals from Anthony Lagan, Adam Dick (penalty) and Aaron Harmon saw Rangers take a 3-0 lead before the Planters Park men rallied with strikes from Jordan Gibson and Richard Thompson.

“I continued with the plan in that we made six or seven changes, notably giving a debut to 18-year-old central midfielder Jack Martin who, like four other teenagers in the same competition, did much to enhance his promising reputation.

“Dollingstown were very physical and that was manifested in the fact that we had Anto Lagan and Kyle Cherry taken off injured after rash challenges.

“We should have had several stonewall penalties but got nothing. We led 2-0 at half-time but really should have been out of sight. We got a third goal but then huffed and puffed and they got one back. But we were always in command and their second goal only came with what proved to be the last action of the day.

“It was one of those matches you are glad to see the back of and we’re glad to be moving on and excited at the prospect of taking on the Welders, especially as we were able to test some of the key players, who will be nicely refreshed for the big clash.”

Carrick have been drawn away to Dergview in the last eight of the Intermediate Cup.

Full draw: Armagh City v Bangor; Dergview v Carrick Rangers; Dundela v Lisburn Distillery; Immaculata v HW Welders. Ties are to played on March 7.
