Haveron wants more of the same against Dergview

More of the same; that’s what Gary Haveron is demanding of his players this weekend.

On Saturday his team avenged December’s 1-1 draw against Lisburn Distillery with a comprehensive 3-1 win. Now he is anxious to exact similar revenge over Dergview at Inver Park.

“We had a terrible result when we went to Castlederg. We should have been out of sight, but didn’t get the goals to put them away and we finished up making the long journey home on the back of 2-1 defeat,” explained the Carrick Rangers boss.

“However, I would like to think we can turn that around on Saturday, just as we did last weekend when we made sure there would be no way back for The Whites this time. The terrible feeling after they got an equaliser three minutes into injury-time the last day was still very much on my mind as we approached that game.

“The lads were keen to get the result this time and they made no mistake. Indeed, it could, and really should, have been a bigger margin of victory.

“It took us a little while to get settled but, when we did, we played some very nice football and constantly threatened their goal. Chances went abegging for Richard Gibson and Jody Lynch and we had to wait a long time for the breakthrough score.

“Then McCloskey, who played superbly and was a constant threat all afternoon, made it 2-0 and there was never going to be any doubt about the outcome after that.

“But we kept pressing for more and could have had them. As in the first half, however, we missed a few good chances before Gibson got the third. I think it was Damian Curran who provided the cross and big Gibson headed the ball harder from about 12 or 15 yards than I could even have kicked it!

“It was all over, but I was then disappointed that we didn’t keep a clean sheet as they got in for a consolation goal from a set-piece, some of our guys maybe switching off with the job done,” reckoned the Rangers boss.

A supporters’ bus for Saturday’s Dergview match will leave Taylor’s Avenue at 2pm on Saturday. Cost: £5.
