Scoreless for more than an hour the game came to life in the second half, but three goals in a seven minute spell saw the Glens run out comfortable 4-1 winners.

Stute began brightly but were thankful for young full-back Nathan Clifford who twice cleared off his own goal line as Glentoran created the better of the first half chances.

Ricky-Lee Dougherty thought he had broken the deadlock seven minutes later but he too saw his shot cleared off the goal line with keeper Elliott Morris stranded.

Just before the break a corner fell to Jordan Thompson but he somehow spooned his effort over the crossbar when it looked easier to score.

Glentoran broke the deadlock on 64 minutes when a long through-ball saw two attackers break clear and, despite the final pass appearing to find the eventual goal scorer in an offside position, the goal stood.

Eight minutes later the visitorsm drew level when Thompson made no mistake hammering the ball in off an upright to round off a fine move involving Jack King and Dougherty.

Parity didn’t last long though and again there was a strong hint of offside in the build-up but, after Curry had blocked an initial shot, the forward calmly slotted the rebound past Corey Wilson.

Stute were rocking at this stage and conceded again through a powerful header following a corner and nine minutes from time any hope of a come-back disappeared as the home side broke away once more to add a fourth.

This was a disappointing result for Institute and sees them slip to seventh place in the Reserve League.

The manner of the goals conceded however, despite strong appeals for offside, is a real worry and the side will look to bounce back on Saturday as they host Portstewart in the Craig Memorial Cup (KO 2pm).
