High five for Rangers

On the day that Carrick Rangers confirmed the signings of five new players, Gary Haveron’s men coasted to a 5-0 win over nine-man Knockbreda.

Miguel Chines scored twice against his old club at Breda Park with Ben Roy, Conor McCloskey and Anto Lagan chipping in with the others. Former Gers centre-back Kyle Owens and Ross Davidson saw red for the home side.

Roy got the ball rolling when he latched on to Kyle Cherry’s through ball and found the net on eight minutes.

Owens was sent for an early bath when he picked up his second yellow card of the afternoon and Carrick made their numerical advantage count when McCloskey applied a close-range finish to double their lead.

Chines scored his first of the afternoon five minutes after the break before making it 4-0 from the spot. Davidson, who gave away the penalty, was red-carded for handling the ball on the line.

Lagan put the gloss on a comfortable afternoon’s work when he landed Carrick’s fifth 20 minutes from time.

Haveron has bolstered his squad with the arrivals of goalkeeper Chris Kerr (Newington YC), centre-back Ryan Arthur (Cliftonville), midfielder Ben Morton (Crusaders), striker Stephen Hamill (Ballymena United) and Curtis Woods (Woodlands FC) who put pen to paper with the Taylor’s Avenue club.
