Hilditch: Expect more signings at Rangers

The work goes on quietly and efficiently behind the scenes as Carrick Rangers’ preparations for life back at the footballing top table devour great volumes of time and energy - and secretary David Hilditch assures there are more signings to come.

Hilditch, who has left the chairman’s post in the recent board restructure to concentrate on the secretary’s job he had also been doing since the sad passing of Charlie Johnston at the turn of the year, is on the final stages of getting the essential paperwork ready ahead of meetings with all the relevant bodies.

“There’s been an enormous amount to do, especially with obtaining the safety certificate. But I’m now getting the loose ends all tied up ahead of speaking to officials from the various bodies - local authority, environmental, PSNI and Sport NI - who will doubtless go through everything with a fine-tooth comb during the next 10 working days.

“Then it will be a matter of going to Mid and East Antrim Council to hopefully have them issue the safety certificate,” explained Hilditch just back at the weekend for a well-earned holiday in the sun.

“The batteries are recharged and I’m happily getting to grips again with the workload. The secretary’s position is much better suited to my match-day routine, with my other position as safety officer requiring these taking priority rather than being tied up with the niceties of the chairman’s role.

“Regarding the playing side of the club, we obviously are delighted to have been able to retain the services of the guys who did so amazingly well to win the silverware hat-trick, as well as the couple of additions that you have reported in the past few weeks.

“But it’s more than ever now in the Premiership a squad game and, given that we will also have a reserve team, we are under no illusions that we will be needing quite a few more recruits, so there will be signings in the next few weeks at various levels and we are already pretty busy on that front.”
