Hill left ‘fuming’ at Reds’ Steel Cup exit

The Reds suffered their second Cup nightmare before Christmas in as many years, losing 3-1 to Amateur league outfit Immaculata in the semi-final.

The west Belfast men were more clinical in front of goal and Hill was left bitterly upset with his side’s lacklustre display.

“Disappointment is an understatement. I’m absolutely fuming.

“I’ll be honest, I’m not going to beat about the bush, I’m fuming with the players; they just didn’t turn up,” he said.

“Fair play to Immaculata, I’m not taking anything away from them and I wish them all the best in the final, but it wasn’t good enough from us.

“In the last six or seven weeks we have been outstanding and then in probably the biggest game quite a few of them will play in their career they put a performance in like that.”

Hill admitted his team was made to pay for missed chances by a ruthless Mac attack.

“We did create chances but we need to take them. Even when we were 1-0 up we had a couple of wee chances to go on and finish the game but they didn’t do it and it gave them an opportunity to get back into it.

He added: “That’s the Steel Cup out of the road. We now have a big game on Saturday (in the league) against Institute and the boys are going to have to get ready for it.”
