Home comforts for local clubs in Irish Cup

THERE will be home comforts for the majority East Antrim clubs who survived the opening round of this year’s JJB Sports Irish Cup.

Six of the seven local clubs whose names were in the hat will play in their own back yards, with Fra Miskelly’s UUJ the only team hitting the road as they take on Paul Kirk’s Lisburn Rangers.

Nortel, no strangers to a decent run in the Cup under ex-boss Jamesy Kirk, have been paired with Kilmore Rec at the Factory Grounds, and Islandmagee will have to overcome Shankill United to make it to round three.

Jim Pherson’s Barn United will go head-to-head with Crumlin Star, while David McCrea’s Rathfern Rangers side host Abbey Villa.

The ties are scheduled to be played on Saturday, October 20, each with a 1:30pm kick-off.
