He may turn 38 in March, but the veteran full back has declared he will come fighting back.

“I know a lot of people will say at my age perhaps my playing days are over, but I am setting a target of coming back and playing for Glenavon again,” vowed Kyle.

“The club have been absolutely brilliant. Even though my contract is up at the end of the season they have organised the operation and are going to cover my rehabilitation over the summer.

“It would have been easy for them to just let me sort myself out because of my age, but they have struck by me which shows what this club is all about.”

It is the worst injury Kyle has sustained in his Irish League career.

“I broke my leg when I was 14, but at all the clubs I played for I was lucky to escape major injury.

“It’s only a few weeks, but I’m missing the training already. After the operation I’ll try and get to as many games as possible.

“The manager has told me to just focus on getting fit and we will see where I am at in November. I’m healthy and fit so I still feel I can come back from this.”
