Immaculata sweep past Wellington Rec

There was a certain degree of inevitability in the air as Wellington Rec, second-bottom in Division 1A, suffered a 4-1 home defeat to Steel and Sons Cup finalists Immaculata on Saturday.

Rec boss Graham McConnell is only too aware that he needs to get some new blood in. “The first-half was the worst we’ve played since I’ve been here. We took the lead, totally against the run of play, and I didn’t even think it was a penalty. We were well in the game in the second-half at 2-1 without really looking like scoring, but the third really killed us off.

“Immaculata are some side, and it’s a great achievement, an Amateur team getting to the final of the Steel and Sons.”

It was from a none too obvious penalty that the Millbrookers snatched the lead; Scott Todd doing the needful from the spot.

Their advantage was shortlived and by the interval it was the Falls Road side who were one goal to the good.

Wellington were well in the frame in the second half until that third goal put an end to their challenge, with Mac adding a fourth just before the close.

On Saturday Wellington travel to Orangefield Old Boys.
