Both teams netting 14 between them after two great displays of enthusiasm and determination, team work at its best.

Goals came from Ben Kennedy (2), Jack Kennedy (2), Alex Smallwoods and Megn Hughes for the U9’s and Harry Boyd (2), Jack Patton (2), Oliver Reid (2), Cameron Burgess and Eli Hand for the U10’s.

The U13 side had an impressive 9-0 win over Tobermore.

Goals from Caleb Donnell (4), Gavin Simpson (3), Matthew Cooke and Ryan Boyd and this result was even more impressive as the U13 team haven’t had a game for a few weeks but have used their time to continue to strengthen themselves which paid off well on Saturday.

Their defence was solid and they have to be congratulated on being fully committed to the cause.

A hat-trick from Adam Dougherty ensured the U17 side seen off Lisburn Distillery 3-2 after extra-time in the Northern Ireland Boys Football Association Cup first round.

Meanwhile midfielder Mark Forker feels that more and more younger players will continue to break into the first team this season.

Forker was full of praise for youngsters Ben Doherty, Matty Young and Paul McVeigh.

Teenager Doherty did well at Glentoran on Saturday, while McVeigh showed a tremendous never say die attitude while up front.

“We were missing experienced players like Flynner (Stephen O’Flynn) Walshie (Aaron Walsh), Dwayne McManus and Paddy McLaughlin, but the young lads stepped up the plate,” he said.

“I thought Matty was excellent as he had a tough shift down the right hand side, but he kept going up and down the line all day. Ben is a quality player.

“To be fair I think it was Paul’s (McVeigh) second start to the season, but he put in a serious shift and he was a great out-let for us all day, he chased everything when we played it in behind them.”
