IN PICTURES: Jonny completes the set with Warren win

One man was celebrating more than the rest at the end of the Gordon Hanna Trophy final played at the Bluebell on Friday night, but it was not one of the players.

Warren YM manager, Johnny McMullan, had just guided his team - labelled as the underdogs - to a 2-1 win over Taughmonagh YM, but only a few people may have realised that this win completed the full set of winners’ medals for McMullan.

Big Johnny had lifted League, Supplementary Cup and even - after years of trying - the coveted Ironside Cup, which eluded him for - I think - five final appearances.

The only missing accolade was the Gordon Hanna Trophy medal, which has only been introduced in recent years, but he put the record straight on Friday night and it must have been even more pleasing as few would have taken Warren to win.

Congratulations, Johnny! But, how did he celebrate his most memorable night. He had to head into work for 9pm and the celebrations were not even under way.

What about the match? Well in the main it was forgettable with few scoring chances created and little to rouse a large crowd to any great excitement.

Stephen Tierney gave Warren the lead as it neared half-time, but eight seconds from the interval whistle Paul Hill slotted in the equaliser.

Neither side could find a winner in the normal 90 minutes and that was the situation with eight minutes left when quick thinking by Davy Flanagan at a free kick set up the opportunity for Simon Walsh to get the winner.

Taughmonagh threw everything, including the proverbial kitchen sink, at Warren in the closing minutes but to no avail.
