Injury won't change Duffy

TEENAGED centre-back Shane Duffy admits that, despite suffering a life threatening injury over a month ago, he won't be changing his style of play.

The Everton defender, who is a throw back to the old fashion type centre-half damaged his liver in a training game incident with the Republic of Ireland last month, in fact he would have lost his life but for the swift and expert intervention of team doctor Alan Byrne.

"It won't change me as a player, definitely not, that's not me. I'll just keep playing the way I play," declared the defender.

The defender, who broke into David Moyes' side last season, making his full Goodison Park debut in December's 1-0 defeat to BATE Borisov in the Europa League, conceded he just can't wait to get back to the English Premiership giants.

"It's all good. It's healing up and hopefully in about six to eight weeks I can start light training, and start running again which is great because I've spent the last month in my bed.

"I got good news from the doctors who were happy enough that I try and push on. I'm going to go back on the 30th now and try and push on.

"I'll go back over to Everton and try and get back to where I was before I left. I'll not push it in case anything happens; in case it bleeds or it gets an infection, but they'll look after me over there. They're top class at what they do."

The 18-year-old was also full of praise for the support he has received from family and friends.

"I've got loads of support from my friends and my family and even all the football players that I've played with.

"It's been great but it surprised me a bit how much people care about me after what happened. I'm delighted. I'd be lost without my mum and dad."
