INSTITUTE: Boss hoping cup tie gets go ahead this weekend

The tie, which was postponed last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch, is the last game for Deery’s players to prove themselves ahead of their Boxing Day Craig Memorial Cup Final against Limavady United.

“You can train all you want but you need to be playing regularly week in, week out, to improve and put into practice what we are doing at training, so it has been frustrating at the minute,” he said.

“But Saturday is a game which we should look forward too and it’s a tie which we should win.

“No one in the squad is really match sharp, so I have to put out the team that I think will go and win the game.

“All the players are in the same boat in terms of the match sharpness and not having enough game time, so the team that I pick will be the team that I feel can do the job.

“I’m also hoping whoever starts the game on Saturday will be going out to prove to me that they want to start in the Boxing Day final against Limavady United.”

Deery also doesn’t want a repeat of the disappointing first half display which his side produced against Newtowne in last week’s Irish Cup penalty shoot-out success.

“I felt in the first half especially against Newtowne we were slightly over ran a wee bit and I felt they ran through us a wee bit and got at our back four too easy on a couple of occasions and that didn’t go unnoticed.

“Because of that I will be taking that into consideration going into the Kilmore tie, even though we are playing an Intermediate team, the same as Newtowne, I want to make sure that I pick the right team which will try to stop that from happening.”

The Drumahoe club should have everyone fit and available apart from long term injury victim Darryl McDermott and skipper Graham Crown continues to struggle with a knee problem.

Meanwhile success continued last weekend for Institute Under 17’s, who came out on top against North West neighbours Limavady Youths Under 17’s, at the Vale Centre, on Friday night.

Goals courtesy of Reece Kincaid (2) and Jordan Campbell secured the 4-1 victory.

Meanwhile Institute Under 13’s hosted Coleraine Academy Under 13’s in the second round of the Northern Ireland Boys Football Association Cup.

Although the visitors came away with an impressive win, it has to be said credit must go to the Stute youngsters, who after a dip in confidence came out in the second half and gave it there all right to the final whistle.
