After this evening’s JBE League Cup tie at Crusaders the Waterside men are back in league action when they travel to Armagh City this Saturday (KO 3pm).

“The Crusaders tie is a great game for us but I also have to be sensible in terms of my selection, as Wednesday to Saturday comes around quickly and we have a massive league game at Armagh,” Deery said.

“As I have said before I feel our squad is very close and a lot of players can play, so there are no real starters or no real squad players, everyone each week has a chance to start each game.

“I have to be really smart in terms of thinking about my player’s recovery and the two hour journey to Armagh, to play on another 3G pitch.

“Regardless what team I might be thinking about for the Armagh game, players will be given the opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the starting line-up when they face Crusaders tonight, it will be up to them to give me a selection headache.”

Stute are currently unbeaten in their last two league games and sit just behind Armagh on goal difference, so Deery wants his players to go out and try to claim their first league victory in this campaign on the road at Holm Park.

“I think we have been very good in our last two league games, we have had two very good performances and we have got four points from them,” he added.

“Personally I think we should have won collected six points from the games, because we should have won on Saturday against Ballyclare, it was a freak goal we conceded, so we need to move on and look to get a positive result at Armagh.

“If we win then we’ll got ahead of them and that was our motivation on Saturday against Ballyclare, but we unluckily didn’t get the win.

“Believe it or not if we had have won last weekend and results had went our way we would have been six points off second spot, but obviously it didn’t turn out like that, but that just shows you how tight things are in the league.

“Hopefully the boys express themselves and play with confidence at Crusaders and we can take that confidence into Saturday’s game at Armagh.”
