Deery also confirmed that he felt his side fully deserved the win and with a bit more luck could have won by a bigger margin.

“I have to admit that I was starting to go ‘one point doesn’t look great’ no matter what way you look at it, but I think we have sussed out the league, we have sussed out that in this league you have to work hard as a team, everyone has to work hard,” he said.

“This result and performance was no fluke we have worked hard in the training pitch working on things. We have worked on the wide men digging in and helping our full-backs out at times and stuff like that.”

The ex-Trojans gaffer also believed that Garbhán Friel’s first goal right on the stroke of half-time was a crucial moment in the game, especially after Aaron Harkin had missed a clear cut chance just before that opening goal.

“We have been threatening to do that all season and to be honest we could have won by a bigger margin, but winning 3-0 and a keeping a clean-sheet is massive,” he added.

“We have conceded in every game and we have gone a goal behind nearly in every game, so we were delighted to get in front and no better time to score because we dominated the first half and it was a great goal by Garbhán, right on the stroke of half-time to give us the lead.

“Aaron has hit it so well and their keeper has made a great save and there young keeper impressed me at times today and yes maybe if we went in at 0-0 we might have been a bit edgy but Garbhán’s goal was a breath of fresh air for us.

“We told the players at half-time that we could go and score more goals in the second half and while the game stopped started in the first 10 or 15 minutes of the second half, but then we built momentum created chances and took some of them, it is a real positive for the young players that all their hard work which they have been putting in, they got a good result.”
