INSTITUTE: Deery happy after comfortable Whites win

The in-form Shane McGinty netted a brace with Gareth Brown also finding the back of the net as the Waterside men made it four league victories in a row.

“It was really comfortable for us,” he said.

“I knew they would have defended deep and get men in behind the ball but we prepared for it, so it wasn’t a shock, but we had to be a wee bit patient and we had chances before we took the lead.

“Shane scored a great header, he was going away from goal and he’s managed to get a full connect on it into the bottom corner and it was at a great time just before half-time.

“It was a great goal but we should have had a penalty and had a few other chances in the first half but we kept another clean-sheet and the three points are the most important thing.

“The clean-sheet is brilliant for us because we have the best defensive record in the league and we want to hold onto that.”

The victory moves Stute 13 points clear of the Whites and Deery admitted he had to make sure his players were tuned in right from the off.

“I had to highlight the fact that we needed to maintain our standards,” he added.

“Because we were 10 points ahead of them before kick-off some players might have taken them lightly but we were fully focused and we worked a lot on their attitudes at a great training session last Thursday night, so I went home really happy knowing that we were ready for the Distillery game.

“Thankfully the guys carried that into the match and as I said we ran out comfortable winners.”
