Last week Deery told his players that he wanted them to attack the bottom side right from the off and that’s exactly what they did and in doing so the game was effectively over at half-time.

A double from in-form Jamie Dunne and Stephen O’Donnell’s opener was sandwiched in between by Thomas Conlon’s equaliser but their blistering first half display ensured the game was well in their control.

“I felt because they have conceded a lot of goals and the game plan was to get them on the back foot early and we done it with good precise play,” he said.

“I felt we used our wide men really well, we had numerous chances and thankfully we scored at the right time. When you score at the right times in games it makes it a lot easier, thankfully we were clinical and took our chances on Saturday.”

Defender Stephen O’Donnell popped up with two goals at Suffolk Road, his second goal in stoppage time was impressive, as he showed great composure and finished like a seasoned striker after breaking through on goal.

“His second goals was a very good finish,” Deery added.

“I felt they were peppering us a bit and we looked a bit open in the middle, so I decided to bring on Darryl (McDermott) for Jordan Armstrong and moved Stephen into the middle just to settle us down.

“To be fair Stephen has a knack of popping up with goals for us, he seems to have this aggression and desire to get a goal and it’s no coincidence he scored, I think that’s him now on four league goals, which is great for a defender.”
