Deery was also delighted that his side kept a clean-sheet and because of that he has somewhat of selection headache coming up.

“When a team is 3-0 up at half-time it’s so hard to replicate that performance again after the break, but in saying that it was a real professional performance from us,” he said.

“I’m delighted Michael (Lynch) has saved penalty so that gives us our second clean-sheet out of maybe 14 or 15 games.”

Gareth Brown kept his good goalscoring run going, much to his manager’s delight and he’s already looking forward to their Boxing Day showdown with North West neighbours Limavady United.

“If you look at the stats, Gareth’s been right up there in terms of scoring goals and creating chances,” he added.

“He has five bookings so we’ll miss him now at Bangor, a suspension kicks in so he’ll definitely be a loss for us, and we’ll need him straight after the Bangor game.

“I’m delighted for all the players, it’s another clean sheet and we’re in the final of the cup.

“Limavady have already knocked us out of a cup competition, so my players will be need to be motivated to turn them over.”

The Stute gaffer wants his players to keep up their good form and get ready for what will be a big few weeks for his squad.

“Mark Scoltock had a very good game and because of that I have a selection headache now, because Darryl (McDermott) and Stephen (O’Donnell) have been excellent and then Crowner (Graham Crown) didn’t feature against Wakehurst, so he’ll come into the fold this weekend,” he added.

“Its good decisions I have to make, we have a few tough away games coming up so we’ll need everybody.

“In our next games we have Bangor, who are one of favourites for the league, and Ards, who are right up there challenging; we’re away to both back to back, so it will be a real test of our metal.

“We also have a massive quarter final tie against Warrenpoint, so hopefully we’ve shown in the last few weeks the determination and we take that into the next run of fixtures.”
