Institute: Kee gutted after Shamrock Park loss

Kee felt the game plan was working to a tee before Michael Gault’s late strike denied them a share of the spoils.

The Drumahoe man admitted he’s getting frustrated that his players aren’t taking something from each game and more importantly learning from it.

“To be honest it’s a kick below the belt, because the boys put in a massive effort over the 90 minutes,” he stated.

“We have competed well for large parts of the game, we were much, much better from the Glentoran game on New Year’s Day, but we have to learn and learn fast.

“I have had a go a couple of players in the dressing room after the game, things like them looking to come off and people not doing their jobs properly and that’s disappointing.

“The TV said to me during their interview after the game that it’s the same type of thing again which has hurt us and I said to him that obviously we aren’t learning quick enough.”

Kee knows that in the closing stages both Matty Young in particular and Cormac Burke had two great chances to give his side the lead late-on, but they failed to take their opportunities.

“We did have chances and our play was good, the players made big efforts,” he added.

“Matty Young has done everything possible right except that (David) Miskelly has come out and made himself big, while Burkie (Cormac Burke) maybe could have taken a touch and I would like to think he should have because he’s an experienced player, but it just didn’t happen for us.

“Portadown will be happy with the win, they are a very difficult team to play against, because they are at you and you need to win your duals.

“They put the ball in amongst you and you have to be physically at it all the time.

“To be fair to the players they did that but on a heavy pitch we fell that wee bit short towards the end and as I said that’s disappointing.”
