McCarron, who had held talks with the Drumahoe club in recent weeks about re-signing, left Finn Harps only a few months ago.

Cliftonville boss Tommy Breslin believes the 23-year-old will give his side “added presence” up front.

“We looked at Sean during the summer but he was in the middle of the League of Ireland season with Finn Harps,” Breslin said.

“Finn Harps reached the semi-finals of the FAI Cup so we had to wait until the end of their season.

“He is a young lad with a lot of potential and he bolsters our attacking options. He has a good pedigree and is an exciting prospect.

“Sean has been up training with us. He has pace and he also brings that bit of presence.

“We needed to bolster our numbers as we have been a bit thin on the ground in recent weeks.

“Last Saturday we had 16 players available to us. We have players like Chris Curran missing and also Stevie Garrett who sustained a serious knee injury.

“So Sean is a welcome addition to the team. He isn’t available until January, but he will continue training away with us so he is fit and ready come January.”
