INSTITUTE: Mystic Deery delighted after deserved victory

Deery felt, like everyone who watched the game at Drumahoe, that his team fully deserved the win and in fact they could have won by a bigger margin.

The Stute gaffer was also mystic meg as he predicted the result at half-time.

“There was some real quality and we thoroughly deserved the 2-0 victory,” he said.

“We created so many chances and we deserved the win; we were immense. We played our own game and we were too much for them.

“It was harsh on us going in 0-0 at half-time but we kept it upbeat, in fact at the break I told the boys to keep going as we were the better side and we would win 2-0.

“Usually in second halves we fail to replicate our first half but we did that and for 90 minutes that was our best all-round performance.”

The Drumahoe men’s first goal started after a sublime piece of individual skill by centre-back Mark Scoltock, something which Deery encourages.

The big defender did his ‘Franz Beckenbauer’ impression when he strolled out from the back before side stepping a few challenges and then passing to Jamie McIntyre, who in turn feed Shane McGinty and he fired home his fourth goal in two games.

“Scolty’s encouraged to do things like that,” he added.

“Some managers might panic but I love that. It got us a goal out of nothing because he’s played a great pass to Jamie, who was also immense.

“I love seeing the players produce on the pitch what they do in training and that’s what they did against Welders.”
