The big centre-back, who netted two in their win at Donegal Celtic last month, headed home their crucial opener against Armagh City on Saturday, much to boss Kevin Deery’s delight, who was also delighted to see Stephen Mills get on the score-sheet.

“To be fair Stephen is the captain, he’s a great leader and he’s gone up to get the goal which we badly needed,” he said.

“I sang the defenders praises about 14 goals conceded in 18 games, but sometimes with Sean Roddy’s delivery, I’ve asked them to contribute at the other end also and Stephen did that on Saturday.

“I was asking Michael (McCrudden) how he hadn’t scored our second goal, because he did everything.

“It was crazy and when Millsy slotted it in I looked straight at the linesman because I thought he had a twitch in his arm a few times.

“My first impression was ‘Please don’t be offside’ because 1-0 is not a great score line and teams can get a late equaliser, so I was delighted for Millsy to come on and score.”
