INSTITUTE: Suspended pair back for Whites encounter

Defender Stephen ODonnell is available for selection this weekend as the returns from suspension.

Apart from Darryl McDermott, who is out a number of months with a broken jaw, everyone else should be fit and raring to go after having the weekend off.

Deery, who did concede that he would use last night’s (Tuesday) friendly against Derry City as a good training exercise for his players, will welcome back duo Stephen O’Donnell and Garbhan Friel from suspension.

“We have everyone back apart from Darryl who is out long term, while Shane McGinty has a wee problem with his toe, but we’ll see how he is through the week, hopefully he’ll be OK,” Deery admitted.

“We have had a good recovery and had a good fresh week and everyone is looking forward to the Distillery game.

“We had a short training session on Monday night and last night I gave some players some game time and the rest of the squad I used the friendly against Derry as a 45 minute training session.

“Then we will be fully focused for the home game against Distillery.”

The Stute boss also wants to bounce back from last Wednesday night’s JBE League Cup defeat to Warrenpoint Town, the loss was only their second defeat of the season at the Riverside Stadium.

“I think our quality just let us down against Warrenpoint,” he said.

“I think we were committed to the game, but I felt the one time this season that the real bit of quality just let us down, we were edgy but we are home this week so I’m hoping we’ll be more relaxed.

“It’s very tight from ourselves right up to fifth placed Knockbreda, I think we are six points behind them.

“We have a great opportunity at home to try and get points, but we know it’s going to be hard.”

Distillery are currently sitting second from bottom of the Championship One table, a point above Donegal Celtic and seven points behind Stute, but Deery isn’t taking anything for granted.

The Whites travel to Drumahoe having lost their last seven games in the league and more worryingly for them is the fact that they conceded two goals in each of those games.

Like Stute they had the weekend off but in their last outing a few weeks ago they lost 2-0 at fifth placed Knockbreda.

Only a few weeks ago the Whites appointed Sean-Paul Murray as their new manager after former boss Tommy Kincaid left the club and because of that Deery is hoping his side can capitalise on the recent change in management.

“I know Distillery are obviously going through changes and a lot of different things are going on at their club, so we have to take advantage of that.”
