Institute: Young guns maybe answer to shoot down champions

Despite being the club’s leading marksman having netted 11 goals this campaign, Kee is thinking about starting young strikers Robbie Hume and Paul McVeigh for their trip to Cliftonville, this Saturday (KO 3pm).

“Look with Stephen’s imminent exit, I have to be mindful of the players who will be here after the transfer window shuts,” he stated.

“I need to get those players more experience and every week and every game is a learning opportunity, so I have to balance up the learning opportunity and the here and now, which is winning the game.

“Obviously the big plus with Stephen is his goalscoring record this year, which has been good, but we just need to make sure that we get the balance right between what’s right for the team and what’s right for the club.

“Because of that we’ll be weighting that up this week and we are also mindful that we are playing one of the top teams in the league, but we recognise now that O’Flynn has gone, but at the end of the day there will be life after Stephen O’Flynn.”

Kee knows the champions will be smarting from their defeat at Coleraine last weekend.

“They had a bad result and good teams make sure they don’t have bad results back to back,” he stated.

“Yes they are going to be a wounded animal but we have a history of playing well on 3G surfaces and our performances from our last two games have been good and in my opinion the only thing, which was missing at Glenavon was that we didn’t take our chances.

“We have good determination as a group, but we just need to start chipping in with more goals.

“Robbie Hume, Stephen Curry and Paul McVeigh when he came on in particular all had chances, so either make it 2-0 or score a second goal for us late-on.”

One man who may also return to the squad for the trip to Solitude is attacking midfielder Cormac Burke, after he scored for the Reserves in their win over Glenavon Reserves, last weekend

“There’s a good chance, but we’ll see how he is this week at training.”
