Carrick Rangers have selected an interim manager to take charge of the final two league games of the season following Niall Currie’s shock resignation at the weekend.

Mr Currie, who took charge at Taylors Avenue in 2018, announced he was stepping down with immediate effect following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat away to Portadown.

The ‘Gers have acted quickly to select an interim manager for their remaining Danske Bank Premiership matches against Glenavon and Warrenpoint with the appointment of Under 20s manager, Scott Irvine.

Commenting on social media, a spokesperson for the east Antrim side said: “Carrick Rangers can confirm that Under 20s manager Scott Irvine has agreed to become interim first team manager until the end of the season.

“Irvine, who has also been involved in coaching the first team this season, will take charge of Rangers’ final two games of the campaign.”
