Davy McAlinden makes no bones about it; he’s taking his team to North Down to defeat Ards on Saturday.

It’s a long time since Larne rattled up five league wins on the spin and the manager desperately wants to extend that sequence even further.

Asked whether he’d take a draw now if it was on the table, his answer was impressively emphatic and demonstrative of his positive mentality.

“No, I wouldn’t take a point right now. I’m absolutely happy to take our chance and see what we can get,” he assured.

“You shouldn’t be in this game to want draws. You must want to be a winner and that’s how we will be approaching this match and every other one we play. On our day we are capable of beating any team in this league,” he added.

But, however things pan out, the Inver Park boss is insists his team are not title, or even promotion material this season.

“We have 10 or 11 new faces and the players are all still trying to blend into a unit.

“Ask me again come the 22nd or 23rd match of the campaign and maybe I’ll think differently if things really go our way.

“I still believe it’ll be between the three clubs with greater resources than ours - Ards, Bangor and Carrick Rangers.

“But we can still compete with them on a given day and, if we play to our potential on Saturday and Ards have an off-day, then we might well come home with another three points and that would be terrific.”
