Inver Reds settle for a point

Having got their noses in front against 10-man Dergview on Saturday, Larne had to settle for a share of the points in a 1-1 draw.

In the end it was a fair result with the visitors having the better of a lively second half. Larne had gone ahead thanks to an opportunist 40-yard strike from captain Paul Maguire.

Dergview were back on level terms after 53 minutes after cross from the right struck the hand of Niall McAllister and the referee, rather harshly, awarded a spot-kick.

Leading scorer Duwayne McManus fired the penalty past the outstretched hand of Nathan Morley-Hillen into the net.

Larne manager Graham McConnell agreed it was two points dropped: “It was in our hands but we warned the players at half time they would come at us. Credit to Dergview they tried to play football even when they were a man down and they are the best side we have played this season.”

LARNE: Morley-Hillen, C.Todd, Simms, McAllister, Carland, W.Wharry, Irvine, Young, Maguire, J.Wharry, Workman. Subs: Braden, Beggs, McGinley (W. Wharry), Gibbons.
