The Taylor’s Avenue pitch failed an inspection, carried out by Irish League official Ross Dunlop, on Saturday morning.

“There were safety concerns for the players,” Dunlop said. “The penalty area at the far end of the pitch is really heavy underfoot and with the traffic that’s going to be in there it’s just going to cut up. Safety comes first.”

Covers had been down on the pitch since Thursday and a team of volunteers had been working on the surface all morning in a bid to get the game staged.

A new date for the fixture is expected to be announced soon.
