IRISH LEAGUE: Howard Beverland determined to bounce back from Warrenpoint malaise

Beverland admits complacency may have set in against the basement battlers, but insists there will be no repeat when they travel to Carrick Rangers on Saturday.

“I think we took our eye off the ball against Warrenpoint. We saw a side that had won only once in 22 games and thought we would win,” he said.

“Maybe complacency did set in. We just expected to win and we didn’t raise our game.

“It was a painful lesson, and something we are determined not to repeat this season.”

Last week’s malaise came a week after Coleraine’s heroics in the Irish Cup, when the Bannsiders came from two goals down to beat Ballinamallard United on penalties.

“We went from the euphoria of that to the rock bottom low of Warrenpoint,” Beverland added.

“It was a case of two extremes.

“But we have to move on from the Warrenpoint defeat. We have learned from it and we are ready to bounce back against Carrick.

“When you lose a game in that manner, all you want to do is get out there and play again.”

Beverland hopes Carrick’s Taylor’s Avenue pitch survives the weather for Saturday’s game.

“We have prepared physically and mentally for the game to be played, so we have left no stone unturned. Hopefully it goes ahead,” he added.
