It ‘dozen’ get any better than this for Southside

SOUTHSIDE Youths romped to a 12-0 win over an outclassed Barn United in Saturday’s Belfast and East Antrim Youth League match at the Showgrounds.

Going into the game on the back of three consecutive wins, Southside never looked like relinquishing that run of good form.

With a squad missing two important players the aim was to secure another three points in the title bid and remain at the top of the league.

Right from the kick off Southside attacked the visitors and took the lead after only two minutes when a superb solo run from the impressive Leon Bonnes saw him dribble past four Barn Utd defenders before shooting high into the visitors’ goal.

It was total domination from here on for the whole game. Big William Allen got a touch from a corner to make it 2-0.

Ryan Stewart made it 3-0 finishing off a superb Ryan Corrigan cross and with only 25 minutes played Southside went further in front with a goal from Corey McDowell.

Ryan Stewart added another two before half time to complete his hat trick leaving the half time score 6-0.

Using all three substitutes at half time Southside continued to dominate this game.

Sam McNiece got his reward with a goal when he fired an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.

David Calderwood, coming back from injury in this match, grabbed himself a brace to make it 9-0 before Jordan Stewart, playing in an unfamiliar striking role, added number 10.

The wing play of Ryan Corrigan on the day was outstanding and he chipped in with a couple of goals late on to leave the final score
12-0.

This was a game won at a stroll by Southside as Barn Utd never threatened.

But goals from all areas of the team must have been pleasing for manager Colin Stewart as the team now prepares for this week’s challenge when Newington are the visitors to the Showgrounds in the clash of the top two
teams.

Southside also announced the signing this week of Stewart Nixon and the Ballee boy will be another asset to the team.

Southside: Erwin, Hamill, Livingstone, Allen, Logan (C), Corrigan, McNiece, Bonnes, McCready, R.Stewart, McDowell, Kirk, J Stewart, Calderwood.
