It’s a brace for Rees as Slane score five against Tullyvallen


Mark Ervine was suspended and Ritchie Nesbitt unavailable but Darragh Peden returned from injury at the heart of the defence.
Right from kick off, Slane showed a real determination and could have taken the lead with their first attack when Gregg Harrison burst down the left but his cross was just behind the in rushing Brian Quilty.

Hide AdSlane did go 1-0 ahead soon after when Gareth Rees burst through one on one and slotted past the keeper.
Harrison’s movement and pace was destroying the home team and this led to the second goal with the player was upended as he bore down on the keeper, penalty awarded. The ref had no choice but to show a red card and although the keeper saved Brain Quilty’s penalty, Jonny Kernaghan was on hand to poke home the rebound.
Nearing half time it became 3-0 when Johnny Kernaghan beat two men out on the right and with the keeper to beat, he unselfishly cut the ball back for Rees to score his second.
Right on half time there was a scramble in the Slane box with the ball striking a post and then being cleared off the line by Ally Quinn before Stevie White smothered the danger.

Hide AdTullyvallen sat in deep during the second half and the game became a bit more scrappy with Slane dominating possession but the home team defending well.
Slane eventually added to their tally when Brian Quilty got on the end of a Gregg Harrison cross to slot home at the back post. Stevie White was called into action with a fine save palming away a fierce drive.
Late on, Tullyvallen pulled a goal back when a cross from the left was not dealt with and an attacker found the net.
Not to be out-done, Slane went up the other end and ater a initial shot was blocked by the keeper, Tullyvallen’s constant thorn in the side Gregg Harrison was on hand to slam home from 14 yards to cap off a fine individual display.
