It’s seven heaven for rampant Town Juniors U16s

Banbridge Town Juniors U16s met Markethill Swifts over at Tandragee Leisure Centre last Saturday and bounced back with a thrilling 7-1 victory.

The Juniors were hungry straight from the first whistle, commanding possession and taking control of the game.

A sign of things to come, as the Juniors had the ball in the net within 50 seconds when Jack Hamilton forced an error from the Swifts defence for Sam McAllister who buried his chance only for the referee to disallow the goal.

McAllister, who was looking sharp all morning, bagged the opening goal on three minutes with a calm and collected finish after Ryan Sloan played him in with a pinpoint through ball.

This opened the flood gates for the Juniors, who launched attack after attack as captain Jordan Walker played them out from the back.

The Swifts couldn’t find a foothold in the game and were only able to play on the counter due to the Juniors’ immense work rate.

A second goal eventually came on the 24th minute after a series of one touch play which began at the heart of the Juniors defence before working their way up the pitch was finished off by Sam McAllister who netted his second goal.

A third goal followed a few minutes later, as captain Jordan Walker threaded a pass through for Liam Farrell who raced through and finished well.

A fourth rounded off a good half for the Juniors when they were awarded a penalty which Ryan Angus converted, ensuring he keeps up his record of scoring in every season since he began Junior football.

The midfield trio of Ryan Angus, Jack Hamilton and Ryan Sloan didnt give the Swifts a minute to breathe and kept their team on the front foot after the break.

However, despite the run of play, the Swifts played a long ball out of the back allowed them a rare opportunity, which was denied by keeper Conor Ward, only for their player to follow in and give them a glimmer of hope and draw a goal back.

This woke the Juniors up and they began immediately pressuring the Swifts again.

The Juniors were awarded another penalty kick which Ryan Jones placed in the corner for the Juniors fifth. The Juniors were in clinical form as they soon scored again with their sixth goal after they were awarded yet another penalty, the Swifts again leaving the referee with no choice but to issue a red card.

This time keeper Conor Ward was the man who added to the score-sheet when he drilled the ball home past his opposite number. The Juniors collected a final seventh goal when Josh Dennison played through striker Sam Moore who took one touch to set himself before firing low and hard into the far corner.

This week’s man of the match was captain Jordan Walker for an excellent display of leadership as he defended strongly and played his team out from the back, keeping discipline throughout.
