It’s the same old story for U12s

After a positive start that saw a Ben Johnston effort go narrowly wide on five minutes, the locals found themselves a goal down on 10 minutes, but they responded well with a Dozy Ajeh goal that was somehow disallowed for offside.

This poor decision caused the Juniors heads to drop and they conceeded again on fifteen minutes to go 2-0 down.

However, they responded almost straight away from the restart, when Town’s best player on the day Lewis McBurney, found himself out on the right wing when he hit a beautiful shot that drifted high over the keeper’s head and nestled in the top right corner of the net.

Two minutes later Town might have levelled things when striker Dozy Ajeh went one on one with the keeper but was unable to apply the finish after beating the offside trap.

As the locals searched for that equaliser they left themselves exposed at the back and needed a Jack Arlow last ditch tackle to clear for a corner, and James Orr then cleared off the line to keep the score 3-1 at the break.

Town went on a mission in the second period to claw their way back into the contest and striker Jamie Feeney had a chance to get one back but unfortuntely didn’t get a good enough contact on the ball.

The industrious Lewis McBurney hit one from the edge of the box that the keeper delt with and leading goalscorer Jake Corbett had two good chances that on another day he would almost certainly have finished, but on both occasions the keeper saved well.

Shea Winters began to dictate things in the middle of the park, with Jack Arlow and Cameron Sands both putting in good shifts for Town as they forced a series of corners putting the visitor’s rearguard under immense pressure but they couldn’t find that elusive goal.

The Juniors were then delt a sucker punch when Greenisland’s dangerous centre forward raced through to put them 4-1 up but the Juniors got that second goal they deserved, as Jake Corbett found the net from close range continuing his rich vain of form in front of goal to leave the score 4-2.
