Jake’s brace helps U14s to a victory

TOWN Juniors U14s travelled to Portadown on Saturday morning to take on St Mary’s on a very heavy and mucky pitch at Portadown Public Park.

The Juniors started lively once again, showing confidence in their own ability as they pushed St Mary’s deep back into their own half and passed the ball about quickly and effectively.

Chances started falling for the Juniors after only a few minutes, however they were unable to convert and open the scoring.

With 20 minutes gone the in form Jordan Walker ran onto a through ball down the left and placed a delightful chip over the keeper’s head to open the scoring.

Two minutes later Jordan Walker got himself a second of the afternoon after beating two men and placing his shot in the corner to give the Juniors a cushion.

After the half time break St Mary’s upped their game and came flying at the Juniors defence but failed to penetrate through a strong back line.

They eventually got a goal back after 15 minutes from a corner and this fired them up and the Banbridge boys had to dig deep but they found themselves all square on the 20th minute after mix up at the back which allowed St Mary’s to get their second leaving the score 2-2.

The Juniors wanted nothing less than three points and started an assault at the St Mary’s defensive line which crumbled after 25 minutes allowing Jake Dennison to cut in from the right and fire the Juniors back in front.

This settled the locals and they quickly surged forward again and got number four goal with Caleb Schiess tapping in after fine work down the left by Jonny Rodgers.

The Juniors weren’t finished yet, and on 33 minutes Jake Dennison got his brace and the Town’s 5th goal when he tapped in a Caleb Schiess shot which rebounded off the post.

With the last kick of the game St Mary’s got a consolation goal from a close range free kick.

This week’s man of the match was Jake Dennison for a fantastic display including scoring two vital goals.
