Jarvis thrilled to open his account

DEFENDER Dean Jarvis is hoping now that his goalscoring duck is broken then the flood gates will open.

The talented left-back, who is attracting interest from a host of Irish Premiership and League of Ireland clubs, netted ’Stute’s all important second goal against Loughgall, on Saturday.

“It was a great through ball by Mickey (McCrudden) and I have been waiting for that all season.

“I’m just happy that I got my first goal of the season and hopefully I can push on now and get a few more.

“You can’t beat scoring a goal, it’s one of the best things about being a footballer and as long as you keep working hard and getting into those positions and you just have to take the chances when they come about.

“As a defender also keeping a clean-sheet is brilliant, you always say ‘keep a clean-sheet and you’ll never lose a match’, so as long as you keep a clean-sheet then hopefully the forwards or defenders will come up with a few goals and you will win matches.”

The ex-Aberdeen starlet also believes that his long term friendship off the pitch with McCrudden is starting to benefit him in games.

“We have been playing with each other since our schools days and we know the way each other plays, so we are kind off on the same wave length.

“As the season goes on, it’s starting to come together more and with the both of us playing out the left we are linking up well.”

Jarvis knew the importance of Saturday’s win over Colin Malone’s men and he hopes ’Stute can carry their good form on going into this weekend’s interesting Irish Cup tie against Dergview.

“I think Loughgall had won four of their last five games prior to playing us and after us drawing with Ards and losing to Dundela, which kind of knocked our confidence a bit, beating Loughgall was the perfect way to bounce back,” added the 20-year-old.

“Hopefully we can now get on a wee run in the league, which for us doesn’t start up again until after the Christmas break, but hopefully we’ll climb the table.

“I don’t know what it is but us against Dergview in recent games has had an edge to it.

“Even though Dergview aren’t our nearest rivals, Limavady United are, we still treat it like a derby and with it being a cup tie, then both teams will be trying their hardest.

“Anything can happen in a cup game, so we just have to make sure that we go out and perform on the day. Cup games are one off affairs, so hopefully we can win and then get a good draw in the next round.

“It would be nice if we could get a cup run going, yes the league is our bread and butter, but a cup run will give you more confidence; say for instance if we get past Dergview and then get maybe Coleraine or Portadown and we managed to beat them, then that win I’m sure would help us in the league.

“If we do manage to get promoted then if we did beat one of the Premiership side in the cup then we would know that we could go and match them next season.”
