Jock's gr-eight feat gives All Saints boost

JOCK McKay's rink scored a maximum 'eight' to fire All Saints away from the bottom of the DIvision Three table.

The sought-after feat occurred as the Kenbaan side claimed a welcome four points at the expense of visitors Round Tower.

It came on the sixth end of Jock’s rink’s meeting with Michael Teer and was scarcely in keeping with an otherwise close tussle in which only 11 shots were scored on the other nine ends. Jock’s side eventually prevailed by 12 shots to seven.

Even with their heroics, Saints still trailed at the break thanks to Gilmore Campbell’s 12-6 win over Eugene Walsh.

Eugene McReynolds claimed another point for All Saints with an 11-10 success over John O’Neill, while Saints’ other point - and the one which wrapped up the point for over shots - came in slightly unusual fashion from Paddy Martin.

HIs rink won nine of the 10 ends against Michael Teer, whose only contribution to the scoreboard was an impressive ‘6’ on the seventh end.

Elsewhere, leaders St Mary’s Portglenone extended their lead as they continued their dominance over their namesakes from Glenravel, beating them 5-0 for the second time this season.

James McCann got the better of Niall Sands 6-4 in a low-scoring game, while Patsy Boyd added a second point with an 11-6 win over Gerry Sands.

CHarlie Graham’s rink demolished Seamus McKeown 17-1 while the closest Glenravel came to a point was when Danny Higgins’ foursome was beaten by one shot by Kieran Adams.

Services ‘B’ move up to second place but they might feel disappointed at having dropped two points on their own mats against basement side First Ballymena.

The church side led by four shots at the break with Roland Woods’ win over Roy Dickson over-riding John Smith’s success against Roberta Hayes.

Eric Smyth tilted the match in Services’ favour with an 18-4 win over Lyle McQuitty but ‘First’ claimed another point when Jean Mullan saw off Greta Coulter.

The Eaton Park v Dunclug PTA was called off due to the death of Dunclug bowler Robert Neeson’s mother. The sympathy of the league is extended to Robert and the family circle.
